Your Licence, What Can You Ride?

As a motorcyclist, you may come across all kinds of obstacles. Getting your licence shouldn't be one of them!

Here we've listed the different kinds of licences available and what they offer you:

AM licence from age 16

  • Maximum 50cc
  • Restricted to 28mph
  • No motorways

 
A1 licence from age 17

  • Maximum 125cc
  • No more than 11kw (15bhp)

 
A2 licence from age 19

  • No restriction on size
  • No more than 35kw (47bhp)

 
A licence from Age 21 (if held A2 for 2 years)

  • Can ride any bike no restrictions

 
A licence from 24 (if not held A2 for 2 years)

  • Can ride any bike no restrictions

 
CBT from age 16

  • Maximum 50cc
  • Restricted to 28mph
  • No motorways
  • No passengers
  • Displaying L-plates front and rear
  • Only valid for 2 years

 
CBT from age 17

  • Maximum 125cc
  • No more than 11kw (15bhp)
  • No motorways
  • No passengers
  • Displaying L-plates front and rear
  • Only valid for 2 years
