Can I start training with my current driving licence?

To start taking lessons you must have provisional motorcycle entitlement (category A) on your licence. If it is a provisional licence this will be shown on the back of the photocard. If it is a full car licence, it will be shown on the paper counterpart. If it is an old style paper licence, it will be shown in the box marked 'Provisional Entitlements'. If you are unsure please check with us before booking. We will not accept a booking if you have applied for, but not yet received your licence.

Do I need to sit a Theory Test?

If you intend to sit the full motorcycle test you must first pass the Motorcycle Theory Test, irrespective of how long you have held a car licence. This can be booked at www.dsa.gov.uk or on 0300 200 1122. You do not need to do the Theory Test if your intention is just to do CBT.

Who will teach me?

All our instructors are qualified at least to CBT1, the standard set by the industry's governing body, the Driving Standards Agency (DSA), and are regularly inspected. To conduct Direct Access training on large motorcycles, instructors must also have passed the DAS Assessment at the DSA training establishment. You can rest assured that we insist on the highest standards from our team of experienced instructors.

What kind of test do I have to sit?

The practical test is now split into 2 elements. Element 1 is conducted in a safe off-road environment during which a number of manouvres are carried out. These include the U-turn and emergency stop from the old test, a slow drive and slalom, and a hazard avoidance manouvre. Element 2 is an on-road pursuit test very similar to the old test.

Both elements are conducted by the Driving Standards Agency, the government agency which also carries out car tests and oversees standards.

What happen if I fail the test?

If you are on an intensive course and are unfortunate enough to fail the test at the first attempt, we will give you a further four hours training and bike hire free prior to your resit. You pay only for the test fee. If you are on an extended course we will give you further hours up to the maximum allowable on the course you have chosen, and again you pay only the test fee.

What must I supply?

You must bring both parts of your licence for all training, otherwise we cannot train you. Once you have passed your CBT, you must also bring your CBT certificate. Please refer to the terms and conditions.

We will provide a helmet, jacket and gloves free of charge for your training, though we can also provide special packages if you wish to buy some or all of your own gear.
